Kite flying at the McFarland Ranch

The local hawks thought this was a real bird, but no, it is a kite.

The 17th of April was the first kite day at the McFarland Living History Ranch.  Our kite expert, Pete Sheragy of Lodi, brought out his inventory of kites, books and supplies.  The types of kites seems to be unlimited in style, shape and colors.  The adults seemed to enjoy the kites as much as the children.

The weather was beautiful and just about the right amount of wind.  The area selected was perfect for the number of kids flying kites at any one time.  More than once kite strings got tangled up.  A few landed in trees, but all were retrieved.  It may have been a kids event, but more than one adult got his/her hands on a kite too.

Food, snacks and drinks were served for all in attendance.

Mackenzie (7), mom Debbie (age unknown, declined, refused), Paige (8), Sloan (3) and Jordan (6) really enjoyed themselves.

Chance was so enthused to fly kites and pretty good too.

Just one of the many beautiful kites to fly.

Even the bigger kids enjoyed flying a kite.  This is Samantha.

Look at that smile on Mackenzie's face.

Here are the kite flying winners.  From l. to r. Mike Frey, Jordon Baysinger, Reyna Imparato,  Sloan Baysinger, Mackenzie Baysinger, Paige Shea, Eric Leddy, Chris Leddy, Brandon Denier, Chance Denier.

They each received a gift certificate for a large ice cream cone or milk shake from Galt Frosty and this was donated by Brenda Renfrow.
